EGB riders chosen to go to WEG Endurance Test Event in Normandy
Two Elite British riders will travel to France in August to participate in the Endurance test event for
the 2014 World Equestrian Games (WEG). Experienced team riders, Tricia Hirst from Powys and Beccy
Broughton-Booker from Nottinghamshire will ride the 120km FEI 2* course at Sartilly in Normandy at
the test event to be held on the 16th August 2013. Both Tricia and Beccy have represented Britain
at senior level on several occasions and they are looking to find out as much information about the
course as possible ahead of next year’s championship. 2010 WEG team member, David Yeoman is
reserve rider for the Endurance test event. Endurance is one of the 6 disciplines to be holding a test
event in the run up to WEG and just two riders from each country are permitted to take part per
discipline. The test event will take place at the same venue in Sartilly that will host the
championships in 2014 when Team GB will send out a full team of five horse and rider combinations.

*** Peter Webster sent us photographs from Hallworthy Ride, held in aid of Cancer Research, and in memory of the late Frances Webster. Despite the windy conditions on the day, all who turned out voted the route a success and it will definitely be on the SW calendar in 2015.
It is with great shock and sadness that I inform you of the sudden death of Elizabeth Banfield yesterday. Apparently she was out hacking alone near her home in Mount when she had some sort of accident and died at the scene - no-one else was involved. Elizabeth was a great supporter of Endurance GB South West and although not a member was regularly seen helping as a vet writer at several of our Rides. Her dry sense of humour and Welsh wit will be sorely missed by us all in the South West.
Sincere condolences to her family.

88 people came to our Annual Meetings and Awards Dinner at Trethorne Leisure Park in Cornwall. £234 was raised from the Raffle and the sale of 2015 Calendars. Click here to see 2014 Results and photos!!!
Our Endurance demonstration was preceded by the Stallion Parade, featuring five stallions, including this spectacular fellow from Woodbank Arabians - what a mover!
EGB SW held an endurance demo at the Arab Gala at Bicton College organised by the South West Arab Horse Group. It was expertly presented to a small but enthusiastic audience by a South-West rider Deborah Duncan.
Debbie first introduced two South West horses - Astral Mystique (with 31 results totalling 1,381km) and Latek (18 results totalling 830km, with a 100% pass rate), both owned by Jan Prettejohn and ridden by Jan and Vicky Mosey. Misty and Dillon were presented to a "pretend vet" (Maria Baverstock) and stewarded and crewed around a lovely indoor school by Andy Prettejohn and several young helpers.
Meanwhile, patiently waiting in the wings stood Mellow Jazz, 18-year-old pure Crabbet, with 2,167 successful competitive kilometres to his name, including a spin around Golden Horse Shoe course with Mary King on board in 2011. Jazz was joined by his owner and a British-Team rider Karen Jones and her crew, who also brought along Karen's other competition horse, an eight-year-old mareTreasured Moonbeam.
In an engaging interview with Debbie, Karen shared with us how she first got into endurance, how she still gets nervous before every ride, her preference for leather tack and talked of the importance of having nicely-painted nails which help to make a good impression on A&E staff, just in case one has the misfortune to come off one's endurance mount. Although the audience was a small, there were lots of questions and positive interest in our sport, and we hope to continue to collaborate with the South West Arab Horse Group in the future.

EGB South West had an exceptional stand at the Westcountry Equine Fair this year - well-designed and manned by our volunteers, it was well attended and generated much interest in our sport from the wider equestrian community. We hope to see many new Full and Associated Members at the 2015 Rides!

Jane Holden who served on EGB SW Committee for several years and was in charge of the Press, submitting many articles about endurance events to the newspapers in the South West had to retire from her post due to health reasons.
Jane has emailed to thank the Committee for a gift of riding gloves which she is currently using when walking her dog! But she is determined to be back in the saddle in the Spring and we wish her full recovery and many riding miles in 2015!
